Horley Under-15s Wednesday 24th July, East Surrey Colts League, Horley Row

24/7/2019

Horley Under-15s 88-2 (14.2 overs), Oxted and Limpsfield Under-15s 86-9 (20 overs), East Surrey Colts League, Wednesday 24 July, Horley Row. Horley won by eight wickets.
Horley Under-15s finished their East Surrey Colts League Division One season as runners-up in the table after beating Oxted and Limpsfield in their last match. They ended up just one point behind league champions Banstead, who beat Reigate Priory in their last game.
Freddie Holland bowled superbly in the win over Oxted, taking five wickets for just nine runs in his four overs. He started with a double-wicket maiden, then took two more wickets in his second over, bowling Matt Thomas with a particularly superb delivery.
Holland returned later in the match to dismiss opener Jocelyn Heaver, who was on 26., with his last ball.
Harry Grimwood took two wickets, both bowled, Udith Molanguri one, and Alex Field claimed the last wicket, caught by Shae Meacher, as Horley restricted Oxted to just 86-9 in their 20 overs.
Knowing a win would give them a chance of being champions – depending on Banstead’s result – Horley were keen to make short work of the chase, but both openers fell relatively cheaply and Horley were 25-2 when Meacher joined Aryan Patel at the crease.
Meacher was batting with a leg injury and finding running between the wickets very difficult, but he overcame this problem to hit some fine shots and made his highest-ever score of 28 not out, including six fours.
Patel ended up on 30 not out as this pair saw Horley home with 5.4 overs to spare.

Horley Under-15s Monday 22nd July, East Surrey Colts League Cup semi-final, Betchworth

22/7/2019

Reigate Priory Under-15s 144-6 (20 overs), Horley Under-15s 145-4 (19.2 overs), East Surrey Colts League Cup semi-final, Monday 22 July, Betchworth, Horley won by six wickets.
Horley Under-15s are heading for the East Surrey Colts League Cup final after a last-over win at Reigate Priory in the semi-final.
Priory elected to bat and Sam Glynne-Jones survived what Horley thought was a clear stumping and went on to make 50 before retiring. He was well supported by Beau Deathridge with 31 and Jason Cole with 22 as Priory made the excellent score of 144 from their 20 overs.
Freddie Holland took two wickets for Horley and Ben Cooper, George Bowers and Aryan Patel one each.
Needing more than seven an over, Horley made a good start with Zack Collins and Christian Kelly putting on 55 for the first wicket before Kelly was out for 29. Collins went on to make 50 and retire, while Patel contributed 23 before he was dismissed by the first of three run-outs as Horley tried to chase down the total.
Udith Molanguri and Harry Grimwood were also run out in calling mix-ups with Cooper and Horley needed eight from the last over when Shae Meacher joined Cooper in the middle. Cooper decided to take the running of quick singles out of the equation, hitting two fours from the first two balls of the over to secure the win for Horley.

Horley Strollers Sunday 21st July, Horley Row

21/7/2019

Horley Strollers 171 all out (37.2 overs), Lingfield Sunday First XI 223-4 (40 overs), Sunday 21 July, Horley Row. Lingfield won by 52 runs.
An unbeaten century from Robert Style (101, retired) enabled Lingfield’s Sunday XI to set a tough total of 223 from 40 overs and although Horley’s Strollers made a good attempt at chasing it, they came up 52 runs short.
Robbie McKenzie made 51 for Lingfield before Callum Tester had him caught by Dave Childs, while Tom Clargo took two wickets – one caught behind by Kieran Childs – and claimed a run-out.
Needed over five an over, Horley lost early wickets and were 17-3 but then Abdul Razzaq and Clargo put on a partnership of 63 for the next wicket, before Razzaq was run out for 15. Another quick wicket followed but when Clargo was joined by Nick Waddington, they made 63 together, before Clargo fell for 77 from 98 balls (five sixes and nine fours).
Waddington went on to make 37 but no one could stick with him long enough to give Horley a chance of victory and they were bowled out for 171 in the 38th over.

Horley 1st XI Saturday 20th July, Surrey County League Division One, Archbishop Tenison's Sportsground

20/7/2019

Horley 1st XI 159-9 (42 overs), Old Tenisonians 93-7 (37 overs), Surrey County League Division One, Saturday 20 July, Archbishop Tenison’s Sportsground. Timed winning draw to Horley.
Horley are still top of the Surrey County League Division One table despite not having won for three matches now. A string of wins has been followed in the last three weeks by a loss and two draws, the latest of which came at Old Tenisonians on Saturday.
Rain delayed the start so the match was shortened by 17 overs. Horley lost the toss and were put in to bat, but Guy Derham and Ben Remfry got them off to a nice start until Derham was run out on 39.
Remfry finished on 29 and Horley’s run-rate was then steady through to the end of their innings as they finished on 159-9 from 42 overs.
Matt Gainsford made 31 and Ross Nel 25.
Tenisonians were left with 37 overs to bat. Taking the old ball, Trevor Stevens got an early breakthrough for Horley and after Horley switched to the new ball wickets fell at gradual intervals but the visitors did not manage to get the 10 wickets required for the win.
Tenisonians finished at 93-7, with the best bowling figures from Stevens who took three wickets for 12 in eight overs. Derham got two wickets and brothers Charlie and Jordan Robins one each.
Horley will look to get back to winning ways at third-placed Putney this Saturday.

Horley 2nd XI Saturday 20th July, Surrey County League 2nd XI Division 1, Horley Row

20/7/2019

Horley 2nd XI 126-4 (27.2 overs), Godalming 2nd XI 125 all out (42.3 overs), Surrey County League 2nd XI Division 1, Saturday 20 July, Horley Row. Horley won by six wickets.
Horley 2nd XI maintained their 21-point lead at the top of the league with a win over Godalming.
Horley skipper Darren Croft put the visitors in on a green and wet wicket and his opening bowlers bowled tight lines, with Matt Puttick moving the ball away and Chris Cosham angling it in.
The breakthrough came with Puttick dismissing Dominic Coakley for two, caught behind by Andrew Thomas, and Puttick claimed the next two wickets to make the score 50 for 3 after 18 overs. Aryan Patel joined the attack with his leg breaks, working well in tandem with Croft’s off breaks at the other end. Pressure accumulated until 15-year-old Patel picked up three wickets, two caught by Puttick and one caught and bowled. Croft took one wicket, caught by Andrew Burbidge.
The last change in bowlers saw Jonathan Barnett come on and he cleaned up the remaining batsmen quickly, taking three wickets in 3.3 overs, including Godalming’s top scorer Nigel Churaman (39), caught by Zack Collins. Godalming were all out for 125.
Horley’s reply opened with the expansive Barnett and 15-year-old Christian Kelly getting stuck into the Godalming bowlers. With some excellent running between the wickets and lovely cover drives and pull shots, the pair raced to 45, when unfortunately, Kelly pulled at one too many and was caught and bowled by Finn Bickerdike.
Burbidge came in looking determined to see his side home but a few overs later, with another 13 runs on the board, Barnett took on a big shot and was bowled by Bickerdike for 44.
Thomas joined Burbidge and the pair built an excellent 66-run partnership, taking Horley to 124, with just one run needed for victory.
Mild panic ensued as Thomas was caught for 38 trying to hit the winning runs. With the batters having crossed, Burbidge was now on strike and he too was caught off the next ball, having made 27.
Now Ashley Yeo had to face the hat-trick ball from Oscar Roberts and he survived that, then Collins – like Patel and Kelly, a member of the club’s under-15s side – hit the winning runs for Horley in the next over.

Horley Hackers Tuesday 16th July, Surrey Slam T20 Semi-final, Kenley Sports ground

16/7/2019

Kenley Hurricanes 116-8 (20 overs), Horley Hackers 117-5 (20 overs), Surrey Slam T20 semi-final, Tuesday 16 July, Kenley Sports Ground. Horley Hackers won by one run.
Horley Hackers are into the final of the Surrey Slam T20 Championship thanks to a nail-biting last-ball win at Kenley.
The hosts needed seven to win off the last over and in the first five balls of it, bowler Charlie Robins had Ryan Brotherton caught by his brother Jordan Robins and conceded just four runs. That left Kenley chasing two for the tie or three to win from the last ball and Aryan Patel was sharp in the field to get a runout for Horley as Kenley tried to steal a second run, giving the visitors a win which had looked unlikely a few overs earlier.
Horley chose to bat first and Lewis Tomkins (37) and Guy Derham (23) put on a good opening partnership of 74 in 12 overs. Andrew Burbidge hit a quick 18 batting at five, but Horley didn’t quite capitalise on their solid start and made 117 from their 20 overs, with Faisal Khan the pick of Kenley’s bowlers.
When Burbidge caught Khan off Chris Cosham from the second ball of Kenley’s reply and Cosham bowled A Gerrald in his third over, Horley were delighted but B Gilchrist then made 40 to keep Kenley on target. His third-wicket partnership of 50 with Jon Coles (18) looked like it might be decisive but skipper Jordan Robins (4 for 23 from 4 overs) dismissed both of them, thanks to catches by Sam Remfry and Patel, and kept Horley in the game.
Kenley looked like the favourites to win when they needed 34 from the last five overs but the Robins brothers bowled well enough to stop them reaching their target and Horley were the ones celebrating after the exciting final over.

Horley Under-11s Tuesday 16th July, East Surrey Colts League Cup Final, Horley Row

16/7/2019

Horley Under-11s 127-4 (Net 303), 20 overs, Lingfield Under-11s 127-9 (Net 273) 20 overs. East Surrey Colts League Cup Final, Tuesday 16 July, Horley Row. Horley won by 30 runs.
Horley Under-11s beat Lingfield in the the East Surrey Colts League Cup Final, adding this trophy to the Under-10s Cup which this group of players won last year.
Lingfield elected to bat and Horley immediately showed they were ready to bounce back from an uncharacteristic defeat to Capel the previous evening. Aidan Spalding bagged two wickets to offset some good hitting from Lingfield’s opening pair, one of which was a Sussex county player.
Henry Grimwood and Sam Terry bowled well to stop the flow of runs then when the second pair of batters were at the crease Ali Khan, Khyan Patel and Ollie Millard all claimed wickets. This along with some solid support bowling from Dan Sired left Lingfield struggling on 221 as the third pair came to the crease.
They advanced Lingfield’s score to 243 before Patel claimed another wicket. In the last four overs of their innings Lingfield were looking to set a defendable total but despite some boundaries they were pegged back as Millard and Khan struck again and Horley were set a tricky but makeable target of 274 to win
Horley’s first batting pair, Spalding and Oscar Davies set a foundation, making 15 runs for no wickets.  Grimwood and Terry carried on moving Horley’s score along then, with the strongest bowlers out of the attack, the third pair of Matt Girling and Dan Sired found life in the middle a little easier, mixing singles and big hits, including a one bounce four into the scoring hut from Sired.
Patel and Millard then battled hard to defend their wickets and at the end of their four overs at the crease Horley were on the brink of victory on 273.
Artie Hoskins and Khan needed to keep cool and knock off the remaining runs without losing wickets. Khan decided to keep things entertaining with a combination of well hit fours and the odd swing-and-miss, but even a wicket in the last over couldn’t dampen the excitement as Horley finished on 302 for four to run out comfortable winners.

Horley Strollers Sunday 14th July, Outwood CC

14/7/2019

Horley Sunday Strollers 166-8 (28.1 overs), Outwood Millermen 165-7 (30 overs), Sunday 14 July, Outwood Cricket Club. Horley won by two wickets.
Horley’s Sunday Strollers chased down a daunting total of 165 in their 30-over match at Outwood to win for the second week in succession.
Outwood batted well to set their tough total. Their top scorer was J Hipkins who retired on 43, including seven fours and one six, although he was dropped four times. D Nelson also retired on 40 including seven fours.
Calum Tester took three for 43 from five overs, Naveed Sherwani took one for 24 and Lauren Waddington proved very tough to score from and took one for 21.
In reply, Horley always managed to keep up with the high scoring rate they needed. After losing a wicket on the first ball, Dave Childs and Craig Macfarlane put on 40 for the second wicket, with Macfarlane’s 12 including a six.
They both fell in the same over to B Briggs, with Childs making 26 from 28 balls, including three fours and a six.
Number four Nick Waddington batted through to finish on 19 not out, while Sherwani retired on 40 not out, including five fours and two sixes.
Horley reached 124-5 but then lost three quick wickets. However, Tester came in at 11 and made 32 not out, including seven fours, to see Horley home with 11 balls to spare.

Horley 2nd XI Saturday 13th July, Surrey County League 2nd XI Division One, Churt CC

13/7/2019

Horley 2nd XI 206-8 declared (44.2 overs), Churt 2nd XI 152 all out (47.4 overs), Surrey County League 2nd XI Division One, Saturday 13 July, Churt CC. Horley won by 54 runs.
A career-best bowling performance of eight wickets for 53 by Chris Cosham helped Horley 2nd XI beat Churt and extend their lead at the top of the Surrey County League 2nd XI Division One.
He bowled a mammoth 17.4 over spell and took the final wicket with three overs of the match remaining.
Having lost yet another toss Horley were put into bat on an indifferent surface. After Andrew Thomas fell early, 15-year-old Christian Kelly was joined by the experienced Stuart MacPherson and together they steadied the ship with Kelly playing some fine shots.
After drinks Kelly was dismissed for a well-played 27 to kick-start his senior career. Joined by Richard Waddington, MacPherson stepped on the gas hitting one over for 14 runs, including a straight six. MacPherson departed on 49 and Waddington followed for 30, but other contributions came from Andrew Burbidge, 29, Aryan Patel, 18, and Fizul Nadir, 15.
Horley skipper Darren Croft made a smart declaration on 204 giving Horley 51 overs to bowl Churt out.
Churt made a slow and steady start to the chase, not losing a wicket in the first 18 overs, but then Cosham got Horley going by clean bowling the impressive Dominic Saint for 24.
As Churt only had ten players, Horley needed just nine wickets and they began to fall at regular intervals with Cosham doing all of the damage.
Six of his victims were clean bowled and the other two were caught by Burbidge and Waddington. Matt Puttick took the other wicket, clean bowled, but Cosham closed the match out with 16 balls to spare.
With Shepperton losing, Horley take firm control at the top of Division One with a 21-point lead. This weekend they host Godalming.

Horley Under-14s Thursday 11th July, East Surrey Colts League, Horley Row

11/7/2019

Horley Under-14s 96-8 (16.2 overs), Capel Under-14s 95-8 (20 overs), East Surrey Colts League, Thursday 11 July, Horley Row. Horley won by two wickets.
Horley Under-14s finished their East Surrey Colts League season with a win in an eventful match against Capel.
Horley’s bowlers were on top throughout Capel’s innings. Harry Grimwood took the first wicket, caught by Tommy McKenna, then Luke Smith bowled the new batter for a duck and when Joseph Marshall bowled the number four for a duck, Capel were 30-3 in the tenth over.
Smith took a second wicket and Evan Grimwood, Ben Stewart and Joe English took one apiece while McKenna got a run-out and the visitors made just 95 from their 20 overs, with Fraser Brearley top-scoring on 16.
Horley’s reply had its ups and downs. They were 40-4 when Bailey Warren and Ryan Bunn came together at the wicket and Bunn turned out to be the star batsman, making 24 while Warren made 14. Their partnership took Horley to 87 for five before Warren was out and Horley seemed to be almost home and dry. They took their total to 95, but then gave themselves and their supporters a major fright by losing three wickets while looking for the solitary winning run. Marshall was bowled, then Brearley dismissed Bunn and Stewart from consecutive balls, but bowled a wide next ball to give Horley the win.
