Horley 2nd XI 287-6 (45 overs), Whiteley Village 220-9 (43 overs) Horley won by 67 runs
Horley batsman Andrew Burbidge hit a brilliant 68-ball maiden century to help Horley 2nd XI win their opening league match of the season.
Coming in at number four, Burbidge struck his 50 in 43 balls and accelerated to 100 from just 25 more deliveries. There were some fantastic drives and some monstrous hits, none more so than the six which was struck out of the ground to take Burbidge to his 100.
He ended up not out 105 as Horley made 287 for six from their 45 overs. Several other batsmen shone, including Fizal Nadir with 51, Matt Ware with 46, Andrew Thomas with 37 and Alex Rooney with 23.
After a small delay due to rain, Whiteley began their reply well scoring steadily but after losing the opening two batsman they never quite looked like they would chase down such a big total.
Chris Cosham took two wickets, colt Aryan Patel, Nadir and Rooney also took two each, and another colt, Jack Jee from the under-16s, took his first senior wicket on his second-team debut, one of two catches behind the stumps for Thomas.
The shine was slightly taken off Burbidge’s personal celebrations as he ended the day with a black eye after being hit by an awkwardly bouncing ball while he was fielding.
