Captain Alfie Warden chose to bowl first and Achilles Pereira hit the stumps with the first ball of the game. Oxted then mounted a determined resistance to accumulate a respectable total of 288 runs despite Warden and Jack James bowling two batters each.
Warden and Peter Arkemenov opened Horley’s innings with a fine partnership, hitting several boundaries in their four overs. Newcomers Oscar Lawrence, Jack Gardener, Lucas Lafon Anderson and Charlie Tames all made runs in their first matches. A dashing partnership between Ben Danton and Ollie Kilbourne, who smashed 18 in ten balls, was followed by an equally impressive partnership from Perreira and Jack James, who put on 34 together, with James achieving the high score of 21.
