Sutton Challengers Under-14s 104-5 (20 overs), Horley Under-14s 105-2 (16 overs).Horley won by eight wickets.
Horley Under-14s got their league season off to a winning start, passing the Sutton total with four overs to spare, which was just as well as it was nearly dark by that time and the red ball had been changed for a pink one to help the batters see it.
Sutton elected to bat and made a good start but slowed down once the top three were out of the way. Skipper Aryan Patel took two wickets for Horley and Alex Field and Joe English – from the under-13s and under-12s respectively – took one each. Harry Grimwood – another of the six under-12s in the Horley team – claimed a runout.
Patel got Horley’s reply off to a strong start, reaching 40 before league rules dictated he had to retire. Zack Collins made 29 and Christian Kelly was 21 not out when Grimwood hit the winning run.
