Sanderstead Under-12s 71 all out (19.5 overs), Horley Under-12s 73-5 (20 overs). Horley won by two runs.
Horley Under-12s earned a place in the next round of the East Surrey Colts League Cup with a nail-biting win at Sanderstead.
In challenging batting conditions, and against excellent bowling, Ali Khan top-scored with 20 and Luke Smith made a quick-fire 16 in a Horley total of 73 for five from their 20 overs.
Horley were sent out to field with the instruction to enjoy themselves as defending 73 was going to be a big ask. Sam Terry and under-10s player Alex Mutton opened the bowling well, then Khyan Patel took two wickets in his first over, one bowled and the other an excellent catch from Josh Robinson.
Smith and Charlie Moseling took a wicket each, caught by Khan and Ryan Bunn, then Spalding clean bowled the Sanderstead batsman who’d made 14 and was looking dangerous.
After a direct-hit run out from Spalding, Adam Hamza took two wickets, one a fantastic low catch from Robinson.
Henry Grimwood got a run out, then bowled a tight over, going for a single run, before Khan took the ninth wicket.
Sanderstead needed four to win off the final over with only one wicket remaining and after three dot balls and a single they needed three runs off the last two balls. Khan got a run out and Horley won by two runs with one ball to spare.
