With four new players in the team, Horley Under-10s started their league season with an excellent win at Merstham.
Horley were put in and there were some fine batting displays, in particular from Finley Jakins, Luke Benjamin, Ryan Smith and the newcomer Edward Rhodes who all scored double figures. Despite six well-taken wickets from Merstham, and an interruption when a passing dog took a liking to the cricket ball and didn’t want to return it, the score ticked away up to a respectable 308 at the end of the innings.
When Horley fielded, amazing teamwork and great positivity shone through. There was some fine bowling from Riley Hill, Thomas Hitchman and Jakins, while Smith took Horley’s two wickets. Brilliant fielding from Rhodes and Charlie Webber’s fantastic wicket-keeping restricted Merstham’s final score to 288.
