Horley Strollers 207-6 (35 overs), Blackboys 208-6 (34.3 overs), Friendly match.
Horley’s Sunday Strollers lost a high-scoring game by four wickets, despite having a couple of first-teamers in their ranks.
Ben Davis was the pick of the Horley batsmen, scoring 89 before being bowled while trying sweep.
Chris Allen was in great form on his return after a spell umpiring instead of playing, and he retired on 57 not out. Kieran Childs scored 17, Zack Collins 12 and Saleem Nadir 11 in a Horley total of 207 for six from 35 overs (a rain shower reduced the match from its original 40 overs).
In the reply the openers put on 46 before the first wicket fell to Colin Terry, caught by Nadir.
Trevor Stevens took the second wicket in the 24th over, with 129 on the board, before 14-year-old Alex Field – who had gone for just 11 runs off his first four overs - took the third wicket clean bowled, with the last ball of the 25th over.
By now Blackboys were scoring quickly and playing on through some pouring rain, as opener J Britton chased his first-ever century. Sadly for him, he was bowled by Dave Childs for 95 but he had done a lot of damage to Horley’s hopes of a win.
Next ball, Childs claimed a second wicket, out lbw. Leon Watson took a brilliant catch for Childs’ third wicket before Blackboys hit the winning runs in the final over.
