Welcome to the Cricket Section
Welcome to the Cricket Club web pages. As you will have read on the overall Club "Home" page cricket has been played in Horley for well over two centuries and we are proud of our tradition.
Whilst we may be a fairly small club we do own our ground which is the envy of many a club that visit us when they are playing one of our two senior teams in the Fullers League. Another significant feature is the fact that we hold the coveted accreditation of "Clubmark", which reflects our keen interest in the development of the game through our junior teams.
We have a policy of blooding promising junior players in our senior sides but nevertheless are always looking to add competition for places and look to recruit new senior members when interest is expressed, so if you are interested in joining the club and taking part in its future development please contact us using the email addresses as shown below. Our subscription rate is very reasonably and for this, apart from playing cricket, it allows you to play squash on our two courts and access to the clubhouse bar. So if you are looking to join a friendly club, do not hesitate, but click on the email address and fix up a meeting, you will not regret it!
We also have a thriving Junior Colts Section with in excess of 120 members whose development is now carefully managed through a structured coaching program. We encourage early involvement and field teams at under 8's- 9's - 10's - 11's - 12's - 13's - 14's - 15's and under 17's after which we encourage ongoing participation through our Development Team.
Our aim is to offer young people a relaxed yet structured training program that is realistic for their age.
Our winter training program normally starts mid February and here we book indoor nets at such places as Oakwood School and Oriel College. So that no player feels out of place our under 9's 10's and 11's undertake indoor training at Oakwood whilst the other squads (under 12 upwards) undertake their indoor nets at Oriel. Indoor sessions take the guise of 5 one hour weekly sessions after which we move outside to our ground. These young budding cricketers are supervised by their managers and work to a structured coaching program as overseen by our team of qualified coaches. The object is to give the young players new skill sets, yet achieved in fun filled sessions.
As inferred above, in April the whole squad then partakes in a 13 weeks coaching program held in our ground and overseen by our team of qualified coaches who teach them new skills and also develop their strategic qualities so essential in competitive matches.
Coaching can either be paid on a ad-hoc per session basis or 13 weeks can be paid for in advance at the start of the new membership year. The club will part subsidise the coaching cost when the latter option is chosen. Either way our juniors will receive top class coaching from our team of qualified coaches. Child safety is of paramount importance to us and we hold valid Data Barring Service Certificates on all contact staff such as Team Managers and Coaches. As mentioned above we have undergone a stringent audit and now hold the coveted "Clubmark" accreditation.
