All about Horley Cricket Club’s new Girls section
Who can join?
Our Girls section is aimed at girls aged 10 to 13 (school years 5 to 8)
Total beginners are welcome to join, as well as those who might have played a bit at school.
When does it start?
There is a free Have a Go session on Tuesday 18 May at 1730 -1830.
Training sessions will continue at 1730 – 1830 every Tuesday up to 13 July.

What will happen at training?
Most of the training will be based on games and fun or helping each other as part of a team. Girls will learn how to bat and bowl, practice ball skills for fielding and play cricket.
How much does it cost?
£2 per session - pay as you go.
What do I need?
No equipment is required. Wear something comfortable and trainers and bring a drink. If cold, wear a hoodie and if hot, a hat and sun lotion!
Will I use a hard cricket ball?
No, we will start with Incrediballs and wind balls, both are soft balls made of rubber.
Will I play matches?
When we have enough girls for teams, we will organise friendly matches with local girls teams. In future years, we can play festivals (lots of mini matches in a day) or even join the Surrey Girls League. Hopefully everyone will love playing matches but no-one will be forced to play if they just want to come to training.
Who is running the training?
Lauren Waddington and Madeleine Richards run the Girls section together. Lauren is our lead coach. She has a cricket coaching qualification and is an experienced player for Outwood and Horley Ladies teams. Madeleine manages a Colts team, is a parent, a teacher and a new cricket player. Both have current DBS checks.
How do I contact the Girls Section?
Email: [email protected]
What if I am younger than 10?
We have Fun cricket for our youngest (reception) players, and teams for under 8s and under 9s teams which are all mixed. Our girls section starts at age 10 (year 5) when Colts teams start to play hard ball cricket which can put off beginners.
What if I am older than 13?
Please get in touch to discuss. You may be able to join our Girls section or train and play with our growing Horley Ladies team. There are also Colts teams at every age group.
Do I have to join the Girls Section?
You can join any of the Colts teams for your age group. Girls are also allowed to join the team one year below their actual age in Surrey JCC league. The girls section is here to encourage girls to play, not prevent them from playing in mixed teams. Could I do both? Yes!
