When does it start?
Training for the 2021 season, post lock down, starts on Friday 16 April and continues on Fridays for 13 weeks
Once Colts members are ready to play matches, they will play for their age group team for Horley in the Surrey Junior Cricket Championship league. Matches for most teams start at the end of April and continue through to July.
What will happen at training?
Colts will learn how to bat and bowl, practice ball skills for fielding and play cricket games to build match awareness.
Our training is designed to suit children at different ages, so as players progress, there will be more focus on skills practice, but having fun, being part of the team and enjoying the game is part of all our training.
The training is run by qualified coaches, all of whom have DBS checks.
What do I need?
For younger players, aged 7 to 9 (years 2,3,4), no equipment is required. Wear something comfortable and trainers and bring a drink. If cold, wear a hoodie and if hot, a hat and sun lotion!
For older players, u10 upwards (year 5), a hard cricket ball will be used. This means that players will need protective equipment – helmet, gloves, leg pads, box & shorts for boys. Due to Covid, it is not possible to share protective equipment, so unfortunately players will need their own. It is possible to join a training session to try out (not batting), before signing up.
Will I use a hard cricket ball?
For players aged 7 to 9 (years 2,3,4), no, we start with Incrediballs and wind balls, both are soft balls made of rubber.
For older players, U10 upwards (year 5), hard ball will be used in training when safe to do so and in matches.
For girls in years 5, 6, 7 and 8, there is an option to play in a girls section using Incrediball and windballs.
What does the Club do for welfare and safety?
The safety and welfare of our Colts is our priority. All our coaches, managers and match officials are DBS checked and we have a Club Welfare Officer responsible for safeguarding.
What do I need to do as a parent/ carer?
For younger children, you will need to bring your player to the Club ( and away ground for matches) and stay at the ground during training/ matches unless you have arranged for another adult to look after your child. Fortunately our club is friendly and even with social distancing, the Club provides a nice social environment for parents to meet (Covid groups of 6 rule currently applies), particularly as the weather improves. W
When children join a team, parents are expected to help with the team, as every team is run by volunteers and over time, parents get to learn more about the game and get involved as scorers and umps, managers, fundraisers, match fee collectors.
How much does it cost?
Membership fees are:
Junior Sports Membership £20
Cricket Coaching Fee £55 (Cricket Sibling Coaching £45)
Payment of coaching cost by session £5
There are also match fees of £3 when players play matches
Who do I contact?
Please contact the Colts manager for your age group if you are interested and to book into your first training session.
